When this year began, thousands of couples had big plans for their wedding, they were counting down the days and everything was on track. The coronavirus pandemic seemed to come out of nowhere, putting all plans for a normal life on hold for an indeterminate amount of time. Lots of couples had to postpone their weddings, and social distancing became an essential part of our daily life. If you fall into this category, I’d like to sympathise with you and let you know that you are not alone. Things are not as bleak as they seem, and we will get out of this together.
As we spend time at home for our general safety, you’re probably thinking a lot about your pending Cornish wedding. Did you know that there are still plenty of things that you can do right now? Planning is a vital part of your wedding, and the sooner you get started, the better.
Right from the comfort of your home, you can put things in motion so that when it’s safe to do so again, your wedding can happen swiftly and without a hitch, interested? Then you’re in the right place!
Here is a list of 7 wedding activities that you can engage in during this pandemic, from the comfort of your home.
Have Your Wedding Planning Meeting Virtually
Do you have a wedding planner? They’ll be able to help you navigate the minefield that is planning your wedding, and their experience will come in very handy. Check in on them online to get/give updates on different wedding tasks, and your plan for your wedding. It will help you stay focused and busy in these trying times.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a wedding planner, not everyone wants someone else that involved in planning their wedding and a lot of us couldn’t justify the extra costs even if we wanted.
Hire/Check-in With Your Vendors
Once this pandemic is over, there is going to be a rush for all available vendors. So, wouldn’t you prefer to find, for example, a great wedding photographer now that you have the time? You can check in with them through their website and apps like Facetime, Skype, Google Hangouts and more. They should be more than ready to provide you with demo videos and photo albums if you need them, to help make up your mind. They could even help with reliable recommendations for suppliers that you need at your wedding, but have not booked yet. As industry experts, they would have worked with a lot of good and bad suppliers and will be more than happy to share their knowledge with you. As a wedding photographer, this is something that I offer to all my couples.
Start Your Wedding Website
Online communication has become invaluable in this period. Creating a website for your wedding is becoming more and more popular as many easy to use web services have been popping up. There are lots of sites with templates that you could use, and you could also choose to have a simple landing page with just the basic information, such as dates and locations and a small message from yourselves. With the website, you can communicate all the relevant information about your wedding and answer any questions that your guests might have too. Try to include as much information about your wedding as you can, this can be very useful for those guests that lose their invite or are just generally not that organised.
Update Your Gift List
Now that you have a bit more time on your hands, I’m sure you’ve discovered a few more things you should have added to your registry. Please don’t be shy, put it on there. If you find something on there that you have already bought or that you think is no longer necessary, you could take it off to avoid duplicates. Not everyone likes the idea of a wedding wish list but it does make things easier for your friends and relatives, especially if you have a lot of guests or a large family. It will make it easier for them and also ensure you actually get the things you need rather than half a dozen scented candles.
Take A Virtual Dance Class
The first dance is something that is kind of expected at a wedding these days but not every couple looks forward to this. Some newlyweds may never have danced before so this is a great way to perfect your dance skills for your wedding day. It can also be a bonding exercise if you are self-isolating with your partner and you take the classes together. Another bonus: dancing helps to keep you fit. There are lots of websites that offer such courses, and you can also find an instructor to tutor you both online for a more personalised lesson.
Create a Wedding Playlist
Are there any particular songs that you’d like to hear at your wedding? Well, guess what, you have all the time to decide on it now. You can also throw in a list of songs that you wouldn’t want playing. It’s a great way to personalise your wedding’s music entertainment, and your guests will get to hear songs that are meaningful to you as a couple. Imagine the look on your best friend’s face when she hears that song you both loved in school. Or your parent’s emotions when they hear that popular sing-along song, that they played on long journeys in the car.
Take Care Of Yourselves!
Relax your mind, get enough sleep and pay attention to your emotional wellbeing. We can’t have a wedding without you both. Try to avoid panic, worry and stress as much as possible. You’ll be fine, and soon this will all be in the past. Till then, keep working on your wedding and stay safe.
