Choosing your wedding date is one of the first steps in your wedding planning. In one of the most popular posts on my blog, "Wedding dates to avoid in 2022, 2023 & 2024", I go over the events and holidays happening all over the UK and highlight some of the dates you might not want to choose for your wedding day. If you aren't from the area or you just don't keep up to date with what's going on this list is for you.
Knowing in advance of the large gatherings can enable you to add more time in your wedding schedule for travelling between locations or it might be an idea to put the guest arrival time 30 minutes earlier to ensure everyone can make it on time. Be sure to check the dates at the bottom of the page to ensure no last-minute surprises!
Three Reasons To Avoid Booking On The Same Day As A Local Event
Traffic: As you know the Cornish roads aren't perfect at the best of times let alone when thousands of people descend on a tiny village for an event. If you are travelling between your ceremony and reception you will find that travel time can vary wildly depending on traffic. If there is something happening nearby it will be good to add extra travel time to your schedule. Some couples choose to mention it on the RSVP or wedding website to let their guests know to leave slightly earlier.
Accommodation: If you are eloping or having lots of family and guests travelling from all over the country you will find the price of accommodation will skyrocket or in some cases be fully booked months in advance around the dates of Cornwall's biggest events. Events like the Fowey Regatta for example will have all the accommodation in and around Fowey booked up as soon as the dates are announced, and the accommodation that's left is probably overpriced.
Guests: Let's say you and your friends are big Cider drinkers, booking your wedding on the same date as Rattler Fest at Healeys Cyder Farm might mean some of your guests have to change their plans to be able to make it.
