Choosing your wedding date is one of the first steps in your wedding planning. In one of the most popular posts on my blog, "Wedding dates to avoid in 2022, 2023 & 2024", I go over the events and holidays happening all over the UK and highlight some of the dates you might not want to choose for your wedding day. If you aren't from the area or don't keep up to date with what's happening, this list is for you.
Being aware of large gatherings ahead of time can help you plan for additional travel time between wedding locations or consider scheduling guest arrival 30 minutes earlier to ensure everyone arrives on time. It's essential to double-check the dates to avoid any last-minute surprises.
Three Reasons To Avoid Booking On The Same Day As A Local Event
Traffic: Cornish roads can be challenging, especially during major events when thousands of people flock to small villages. Travel time between your ceremony and reception may vary greatly due to traffic, so it's advisable to factor in extra time for your schedule. Some couples choose to inform their guests of this potential issue by mentioning it on the RSVP or wedding website, suggesting they leave a bit earlier.
Accommodation: Accommodation prices can increase significantly and become fully booked well in advance during major events in Cornwall, such as the Fowey Regatta, especially if you're planning to elope or have many guests travelling from different parts of the country. It's best to book early to secure a place to stay, as available options may be overpriced closer to the event dates.
Guests: Let's say you and your friends are big Cider drinkers, booking your wedding on the same date as Rattler Fest at Healeys Cyder Farm might mean some of your guests have to change their plans to be able to make it.
